Our Estate Grown Petit Verdot is truly the oxymoron as the name suggests. In the vineyard, the Petit Verdot yields open clusters with tiny berries. Tiny berry size leads to a high ratio of skin to juice contact during the fermentation process which creates a wine that exudes concentrated aromatics of cassis, blackberry, violet, raspberry, and a subtle hint of oak inspired cedar and vanilla. The palate offers fine, silky tannins that give the wine its velvety mouthfeel. A touch of American oak adds complexity with flavors of vanilla, cedar, and baking spice acting as a sideshow to the main act of black cherry, plum, and lilac. The cleansing acidity running the length of the wine and offers balance and a long-lasting finish. Don’t be misled by its name, “Little Big Man”, as this is a big and bold wine that can hold up to most grilled meats, even such as wild boar or pork belly. While it is drinking well now, this wine will only benefit from some cellaring time. Don’t forget to decant!
