With another excellent growing season in the books, the combination of mild temperatures and cool nights left us with optimal growing days to get our late ripening varietals where they need to be in order to produce well-balanced wines. The 2018 Roussanne is an example of just that, with the alluring scents of juicy peach, fresh cut lime, and hints of cream and honey. Subtle nuances of jasmine, honeysuckle, and lilac add to a complexity that is only achievable through meticulous care and dedication in the vineyard. The palate is rich, succulent and bursting with judicious amounts of apricot, Meyer-lemon, hibiscus, and honeydew melon. Although a full-bodied wine, a defined acidic backbone balances out the weight of the palate providing a refreshing and lengthy finish. Roussanne is great for some intriguing food matches, so try pairing with semi-soft cheeses such as fresh Chevre and aged Gouda, or with heartier dishes such as roasted chicken and Dungeness Crabcakes.
