2016 Petit Verdot

Our Estate Grown Petit Verdot is truly the oxymoron as the name suggests. In the vineyard the Petit Verdot yields open clusters with tiny berries. Tiny berry size leads to a high ratio of skin to juice contact during the fermentation process which creates a wine that exudes highly concentrated aromatic notes of violet, dried rose petal, cassis, raspberry, and blueberry. The palate shows an abundance of fine, silky tannins which give the wine its velvety mouthfeel. A touch of French and American oak adds complexity with flavors and aromas of vanilla, cedar and baking spice. Cleansing acidity persisting throughout the length of the wine retains balance and provides a long-lasting finish. Don’t be misled by its name, “Little Big Man”, as this is a big and bold wine that can hold up to most grilled meats, even such as wild boar or pork belly. While it is drinking well now, this wine will only benefit from some cellaring time. Don’t forget to decant!
