In Europe, it is well known in Austria by the name Blaufränkisch. This grape was first introduced to Washington nearly a quarter-century ago with as much as 250 acres planted. Today though, Lemberger is relatively rare in Washington with roughly 54 acres or less still planted throughout the state. Our last vintage of Lemberger grapes were hand selected from our Estate Vineyard, Destiny Ridge. Limited aging in French Oak barrels helps express and protect the gorgeous fruity profile and terroir of this fantastic vineyard site. Our Lemberger displays a deep purple color that fades to a pale Ruby as it nears the edges. Decant this wine and serve at room temperature to allow the wine to open up and accentuate the aromatics of plum, cherry, blackberries, spice and leather. Medium bodied, with velvety tannins that coat the mouth, this bright and elegant red tantalizes the palate with flavors of blue fruits, cherry, and rose petal that lend to its supple long-lasting finish of acidity. Try pairing with lamb, Prime rib, or grilled meats. It will also hold up well with blue and feta cheeses.
